What is a kernel?
Basically: Everything to do with your computer/smartphone etc. runs through it...and without it nothing will work....developers are always building new kernels to run systems....
Both the hardware and the software communicate both ways with the kernel, and that's how your phone knows when to do something. Input from one side is sent as output to the other, whether it's you playing Angry Birds, or connecting to your car's Bluetooth.

Titanium Backup - Freezing and Crashes
Ok gang, if you are doing custom ROMS on your smartphone and then install Titanium Backup you will notice that your last backups from the previous ROMS are in the /titaniumbackup folder on the internal SD card....
my suggestion:
go in there via the USB connection and delete that whole content of that folder because the OLD files in there more than likely are not compatible with that ROM you have just installed...you are better off to update the ones from Google Play Store and then do a total system backup of the ROM you are currently using ONLY...
don't have a convoluted mess in there.....if you try to restore some of those apps the thing will freeze on you and that is a sure sign it is in compatible....
keep the ROMS clean and running swell this way....
What to do when "Open with" dialog box keeps popping up
The problem is your system has lost the association between the program and the file to execute it....so to restore it you have to reinstall into the registry.

Sleep and Save Power- Here's how
In this energy hungry age we live in it is wise to let your computer "rest" when you are not using it...kinda like ourselves.
Putting your computer to sleep is easy. If you have a laptop, just close it before you walk way. This automatically activates sleep mode on most laptops. (Closing your laptop has the added benefit of protecting your screen and keyboard from external dangers, such as a curious cat or roaming children.) If you have a desktop computer, you can put it to sleep with a simple command. In Windows, simply select Start Menu → Standby to activate sleep mode. In Mac OS X, you can put your computer to sleep by selecting Apple Menu → Sleep. The keyboard shortcut Command+Option+Eject also works.
Here are the different modes of "sleep"
The Sleep mode is useful if you want to stop working for a short period of time. The computer doesn’t use much power in Sleep mode.
Use this mode if you won’t be using the laptop for an extended period of time, and you don’t want to close your documents.
Hybrid Sleep mode is useful for desktop computers in case of a power outage. When power resumes, Windows can restore your work from the hard disk, if the memory is not accessible.

Sleep Mode
Sleep mode is a power-saving state that is similar to pausing a DVD movie. All actions on the computer are stopped and any open documents and applications are put in memory. You can quickly resume normal, full-power operation within a few seconds. Sleep mode is basically the same thing as “Standby” mode. The Sleep mode is useful if you want to stop working for a short period of time. The computer doesn’t use much power in Sleep mode.
Hibernate
The Hibernate mode saves your open documents and running applications to your hard disk and shuts down the computer, which means once your computer is in Hibernate mode, it uses zero power. Once the computer is powered back on, it will resume everything where you left off.Use this mode if you won’t be using the laptop for an extended period of time, and you don’t want to close your documents.
Hybrid Sleep
The Hybrid Sleep mode is a combination of the Sleep and Hibernate modes meant for desktop computers. It puts any open documents and applications both in memory and on your hard disk, and then puts your computer into a low-power state, allowing you to quickly wake the computer and resume your work. The Hybrid Sleep mode is enabled by default in Windows on desktop computers and disabled on laptops. When enabled, it automatically puts your computer into Hybrid Sleep mode when you put it into Sleep mode.Hybrid Sleep mode is useful for desktop computers in case of a power outage. When power resumes, Windows can restore your work from the hard disk, if the memory is not accessible.

FTP Transfers from your Android Phone to computer and back!
Get Software Data Cable from the Android App Store...HERE
install it on your smartphone....
then run it and open your browser and put in the IP address your phone gives you...
then you can see all your files
If you want to transfer back and forth I recommend FireFTP (get it HERE) an extention for Firefox...make sure
you enable it to be used as your FTP and then when you restart the browser and go to the IP address Software Data Cable gives you you will see the FTP windows between your phone and computer.....
For those of you who have a Samsung Galaxy S 2...forget Kies...it is slow and boggy....
go with this and you will happily be transferring between the PC and phone....

Google Sync and XMarks--Sync Problems
Here is a tip for those of you who use Google Chrome and Firefox interchangeably....
if you set up and use Google Sync it works wonderfully across all your devices whenever you sign into Google....however if you have Xmarks also installed in Firefox for your bookmarks to be saved there is issues....when you are in Chrome and it syncs unfortunately it will sync those same set of bookmarks to Firefox and override Xmarks...a real pain!
So go into Chrome" Tools" -- "Options" - "Personal Stuff" and under "Sign In" go to "Advanced" and untick the box to override the syncing of "bookmarks" .
If it is real persistent and does override Xmarks in Firefox simply go into "Tools" in Firefox and under Xmarks "synchronize now" and go to "restore" and restore it back to another date besides the day you had the sync problem...
a bit technical but you can do it....
The reason I do this is because I like Xmarks on the home computer but across my mobile devices I use everything Google...

Rooting TMobile Galaxy S2 - version 2.3.6--Proper installation
There seems to be alot of problems with the rooting of this model.....the answer is here though--after having run ODIN and getting CMR on your phone --see videos online-- (make sure Kies is installed and you see the proper drivers in device manager for your phone) you will do the install of su (superuser)
Put the su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip on your INTERNAL DRIVE not the SD CARD....it seems there is some issues with the SD not reading properly till the system is booted up.....Clockwork Mod Recovery gives you the option to install the zip file from the internal card so do that and you will gain ROOT....
reboot the phone once done...
even though it may show a slight error at the end of the install it works flawlessly when you reboot the phone...
download Titanium Backup + Root from Market and have fun!

Problem Running Overdrive Media Console-Windows Media Upgrade Needed
PLEASE USE INTERNET EXPLORER TO RUN THIS UPGRADE
The OverDirve Media Console is being used extensively by Public and Corporate Libraries to deliver electronic content to members. Using OverDirve Media you can download Audio Books, Videos, and E-Books. On Windows based PCs, OverDirve Media uses Windows Media Player to deliver audio Book and Video content. Because of this, OverDrive Media requires that a security update be applied to Windows Media Player so it can control the rights and the expiration of the content (DRM). This update has to be applied before you can download content to the computer, not just play the content. You can typically apply this security update simply through the OverDrive Media Console.
If you try to apply the update through the console and it fails, it’s not so obvious. What will happen is when you try to download content, you will see a message like this: ‘Unable to acquire a license to play the selected title. the selected title requires a newer version of the Windows Media Player security upgrade’…
Trying to install the update again from the OverDrive Media Console, still doesn’t work if you try it again. The OverDrive Help file and the OverDrive web site is useless in trying to figure out how to fix this issue.
The fix to this problem actually comes from a Microsoft DRM Update that you can access here: http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp.
The DRM update is not delivered through Windows Update for some reason. Once this update is applied you should be able to download and play content.(If you still can’t, now try rerunning the update from within the OverDrive Media Console again.
IF THIS FAILS AND IT MIGHT GO TO PLAN B:
Run this program http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=105000.
Try to right click and run that program as Administrator. (If that doesnt work rename the .exe to .rar and manually extract the files to the programs folder. Then run the exe that was extracted.)
After all that load the drm reset page http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506 (be sure to use internet explorer) and you will be on your way to DRM media happiness.
