Android for HTC D2- Froyo 3.2 data connection problem solved

You have to set the APN server properly....this is the whole problem everyone is having with
getting Android to connect to the internet via the SD Card.

Here is the list of APN Providers> Click HERE



Find your provider and enter all the info into the Wirelss & Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names--if it is blank just go through all the buttons and enter the name-mms-mmswc-etc etc and you will be online in no time....also go back and
set the Network Mode to GSM ONLY....

For those of you who use T-Mobile US here is the instructions:
Look in your Settings - Wireless & Networks - Mobile Networks - Access Point Names section. Is there anything in it? If not, add this entry:

Press Menu button (the button in the middle)
Press New APN
Press Name, type in T-Mobile and then press OK
Press APN, type in epc.tmobile.com press OK
Press Back Button three times (the fourth button from the left)
Click on Mobile Networks to turn it off, then click it again the turn it on.

Windows 7 Starter Edition / Home Basic-Background Changer

By default the Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Home Basic editions do not include the Personalization features such as change desktop background and Desktop Slideshow.

Therefore use this little program Oceanis Change Background Windows 7

2. Open the downloaded ZIP file and extract the Oceanis_Change_Background_W7.exe file to your desktop, then run it to install it.
NOTE: You will be prompted to restart the computer to finish installing this program.

3. When your computer restarts, you will see this as your desktop background. Click on the Oceanis Change Background Windows 7 shortcut to change your desktop background. (see screenshot below)

4. Browse to the images that you want to use and check (select) a image, or more than one image to have a desktop slideshow. Select the Picture position for how you want the images displayed, and any desktop slideshow settings if you selected more than one image. (see screenshots below)
NOTE: These options are just like the default ones in the other editions of Windows 7 here that are now being allowed by this program by Oceanis for the Windows 7 Starter edition.

5. When done, click on Save changes. (see screenshots above)

Canon Printers using Ubuntu Linux

Just an FYI....you can download the .deb files (linux printer drivers) from the European Canon site not the US site...why? who knows...

anyhow, get the .deb files then go ahead and unzip them to your desktop in Ubuntu....double click on the "common" file first and get it installed...then the one that says "filter"....linux requires "dependencies" so ya hafta do it in that order...

then go into system>administration>printing and "add" the printer...it will search for it and find it and then just let it search for that driver whole setup you just installed....and viola it will search it out and get it ready for you!  Easy, and works great....

"Beta" could be a boo boo....

Are you looking to install software that has the title "beta" connected with it...my humble opinion is to steer away from it until the final version is perfected....

Many have tried the beta version of something and it has had ill effects....it simply is put out to the public to "try" or test the software...it will have bugs and can crash your computer.....

Beta is short for Beta-Test....which is exactly what it means....a test, or trial period to give folks a chance to try the software which is fully functioning...

Let the tech junkies wing it with this stuff..you keep to the "stable" versions of anything and you won't go wrong....

Open Office-Great Alternative to the "Other One"....

It reads and writes and does everything the "other one" does....and can even read and write to "the other one's" file system...and save it too!

What is it? The great Open Office ....get it now without hesitation...

"android.process.media has stopped" error

If you are using Android on your smartphone from an SD card make sure the SD card is at least a Class 4 card.....it seems alot of errors are coming from running a card on your phone that is way too slow to run the programs for these faster processors on the little toys....

Check out the card and see if you see a circle with a number on it in the upper corner somewhere....Class 2 is generic and no good...get yourself a Class 4 and you are off and running again!

HTC HD2 Phone Issues-This could be your problem!

Is your HTC D2 smartphone freezing up and you have to remove the battery repeatedly????  Well, I have one and have found the answer to this whole problem!
HTC shipped out Class 2 SD cards with the some of these phones and Class 2 is very, very slow reading and writing...basically junk...so when you install programs to the SD card it will freeze up when you try to access them alot of times.....thus the phone freezes and you have to restart it- very frustrating!

Here's the info to get it exchanged from HTC directly:

HTC has recently acknowledged an issue with the 16GB SD card that shipped with the US T-Mobile HD2. T-Mobile issued an internal bulletin to this effect and provided a US number (888.356.2375) to call to arrange to have the SD card replaced, from Level 2 to a Level 4 SD card. Alot of HD2's had the Level 2 card installed and this card was found to cause the phone to freeze. The Level # is indicated by a circle with a numeral in the middle of it. Usually on the upper right hand side of the SD card. When you call the number HTC provided they will want you to have the HD2 in front of you with IMEI and S/N ready.
They want you to send the 16 GB card back and they will replace it or else give them your credit card # and they will charge you some ridiculous price like 88.00 to send you a new one and when they receive your old one they will revoke the charge....my recommendation....send the old one in with the info they send you on email and be sure and backup your data on that card and format it before sending back to HTC.  They said 2-3 weeks for replacement.

Back It Up - Don't Delay

Here is a free program to back up all your important files....please do it onto an external drive ASAP or else one day you may have "the crash" everyone dreads.  Here' the info:

FBackup^4.5 has a simple interface and guides you through the process of defining a backup job using a friendly wizard that asks you:

• Where do you want to store the backup (the destination).
• What do you want to backup (the sources).
• How do you want to run the backup (using full backup that zips the files, or mirror backup that doesn't zip them).
• When do you want to run the backup (you can schedule it to run automatically or run it manually).

Once a backup job is defined, you can run it manually by pressing the Backup button (or F6), or if you add a scheduler it will run automatically. FBackup can easily back up sources from local drives (including USB connected drives) to destinations such as USB/Firewire connected devices or mapped network locations. It creates either standard zip files (when using "full backup"), or exact copies of the original sources without any compression (using "mirror backup"). Backup open files.
If a file is in use by another program at the time of the backup, FBackup will still be able to back up that file, because it uses the Volume Shadow Service that Windows provides. As an example, you will be able to back up your Outlook emails and settings without closing the program first.

"Flashing" your Phone- HTC D2 (not Euro but US)

Wubi - Run Ubuntu from a folder on your hard drive

The .exe called Wubi (windows ubuntu installer) is a very handy tool...with it you can install the latest Ubuntu or other distros to a folder on your hard drive and use
Ubuntu etc. without harming your Windows installation...it installs just like another program on the drive-or other partition you point it to....give it a try today as I have and run Ubuntu from the startup screen
Download the latest Ubuntu 10.10 and Wubi is already on the .iso file-burn to a CD with IMGBURN...click on the "Wubi" icon and hit the button "install inside Windows"- pick your partition-add your user name and password- let it install then reboot hit "Ubuntu" on the startup page (you will see windows and ubuntu-your choice) the installation will finish the install and super, duper you are running the latest and greatest Ubuntu to date!

If you decide you don't want Ubuntu anymore just go into Add/Remove programs and click uninstall Ubuntu...but you won't cuz it is a great system!
